Arthrogryposis is a term used to describe a number of rare conditions characterized by stiff joints and abnormally developed muscles. Children diagnosed with arthrogryposis benefit from different treatment options that are based on the age, level of function, and the degree of joint contractures. Arthrogryposis (arthrogryposis multiplex congenita) is a condition where a child is born with multiple joint contractures. A contracture is when the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the body become tight and prevent normal movement. In some cases, children have only a few joints affected.
